NSW: Judge hearing submissions on John Killick

SYDNEY, Dec 15 AAP - A judge has begun hearing sentencing submissions for prisoner
John Killick who staged a spectacular helicopter escape from a Sydney jail last year.

The 58-year-old Killick was flanked by five Corrective Service officers as he sat in
the dock of Sydney's Downing Centre District court.

He has pleaded guilty to the March 25 1999 escape, to assaulting the helicopter pilot
and to the later armed robbery of a car.

Judge Barry Mahoney is also to sentence Killick on the three charges he was on remand
for when he escaped.

Those charges, to which Killick has pleaded guilty, are the armed robbery of $32,500
cash from the Mittagong Commonwealth Bank in October 1998, the armed robbery of $23,800
from the Bowral National Bank in January 1999 and maliciously discharging a firearm with
intent to prevent lawful apprehension at Bowral on the same date.

The hearing is continuing.
