SA: Rann wants more doctor places in SA unis

South Australia will lobby the federal government for more doctor training positions
in the state's universities.

Premier MIKE RANN .. who's attending a meeting of state and territory leaders in Canberra
.. hopes to secure an agreement with the Commonwealth to get the extra 110 places the
state needs to ensure enough doctors are trained.

Mr RANN says recent funding increases suggest the number of places in SA will rise
30 per cent by 2009.

He says .. with only about half the places on offer going to local students .. South
Australia faces the prospect of many medical school graduates leaving the state.
