FED:Holiday road toll up to 10

The deaths of a man in New South Wales and another in Victoria have raised Australia's
holiday road toll to 10.

South of Newcastle .. a 49-year-old man has died in a crash and another man has been
stabbed in what police believe might be related incidents.

Emergency services were called this evening to a home in Mirrabooka in the Lake Macquarie
region after reports a man had been stabbed.

A 71-year-old man had been stabbed several times and was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital
in a critical condition.

A short time later .. a man died after his car struck a power pole on Fishery Point
Road at Mirrabooka.

In Victoria .. an 80-year-old man from the Melbourne suburb of Parkdale has died in
a two-car collision at Pootilla near Ballarat.



The latest deaths bring Victoria's holiday toll to four .. while New South Wales has
recorded three fatalities .. and Queensland .. Western Australia and Tasmania have one
each.

South Australia .. the Northern Territory and the ACT remain fatality-free.
